How to Not Get Overwhelmed And Die
I am still working on formatting my New Years Resolutions. Before the new year I didn't feel any resolve to really change anything. I was content, and didn't want to feel the need to change my life just because the calendar was turning again.
Somewhere in the just the first couple days of the new year, I listened to a podcast or two that motivated me and helped me to really feel like I could change. I had talked with my husband on new years eve about feeling like I was in a rut, and I really wanted to get out of that and grow and improve. I was excited!
I have pondered over the last week about what my official new years resolutions could be. I think better when I can get things out of my head and onto paper, so I have been making list after list... after list after list. I wanted to attack life from so many angles that they all kept floating around in my head and I couldn't keep anything straight. Last night I decided to just write a list, and then try to sit down and organize it into more precise goals... and it's overwhelming to say the least.
The list is 647,293 items long, and some of them overlap, and some don't really have a huge purpose, but they all feel important. I don't know where to begin and then I don't get anything done and then I still feel terrible about myself. So naturally, I reached out to social media for some suggestions on how to calm the heck down and not die... basically.
A few people responded, and I'm feeling awesome today! The most important takeaway's from the advice I was given was to:
1. Take it one thing at a time
2. Write down things you DO accomplish at the end of the day so you don't feel like a total loser
3. Pray
4. Prioritize
5. Forgive yourself
6. Know that you are already doing awesome!!
This morning I decided to break things down into measurable amounts of what I knew I could handle. I'm taking the list to my husband today so I will have someone to support me. (I don't always like the phrase "keep me accountable" because it sounds like a job and he becomes my boss. And the last thing I want is for my husband to be my boss, and for self-improvement to feel like work).
Final Goals will be coming soon! What are some of your goals and how do you choose to tackle self improvement?
